Good Governance! A word used alot by many politicians all over the world today as it provides the key for checks and balances where transparency and accountability underlie the processes and procedures.
Democracy is another word that drives good governance and validates all the activities that exert peoples’ participation in shaping government’s policies which ultimately has to do a lot with their daily activities.
Does this notion on Good Governance come easily? Well, it depends on how you see the apparatus that will make it happen, by thus I mean the governments — are they willing to put all these elements in place?
I would like to share my thoughts with readers of The Malaysian Insider as I sit down in my hotel room in Washington DC in a snowy winter evening. I choose the topic of good governance as it is part of why I’m here in America, to learn what Good Governance is all about.
Having a decisive answer to the willingness of any government of the day to implement good governance is much more tiring than understanding what good governance is. The political will for those at the helm of power is crucial to make good governance work. There is a checklist for any government that comes into power before good governance can become a reality.
