Hi all,

Please take 5 minutes to read this very important message which comes straight from my heart.

On July 9 this year, there's going to be a big rally in Malaysia calling for free and fair elections. If you know me well enough, you will know that I have always tried to stand on the side of what is right for our beloved home country.

Bersih 2.0 is no different in this respect. It is an apolitical coalition of NGOs coming together to ask for 8 things which will ensure that every Malaysian - that's you and me - has a voice and a chance to vote for the people who will lead us.

This means that an UMNO supporter gets an equal chance to a DAP supporter. Everyone, who is of legal voting standing will get a fair chance - without intimidation or coercion, and without dealing with the imbalance of corruption - to cast a vote in favour of the candidate of their choice.

Now, I don't care which political party you support - I only care that you and I both get to vote in free, fair and clean elections.

This is why a few of us here in Singapore have set up Bersih 2.0 Singapore.

We have decided we wish to make a positive contribution to the effort. You may recall I cycled from Johor to Perlis in 2007 with the very same mindset. Some things don't change it seems... What positive contribution, you ask? Well this is what we intend to do:

1. A letter to Malaysia High Commission in Singapore

We will send a letter (as attached) to theMalaysia High Commission to express our love for our country and to show our support for a free and fair election. Read through this letter and you will get a very clear idea of what we stand for and why we're doing what we're doing.

2. Poster

We will make a photomontage comprising portraits of Malaysians living and/or working in Singapore, each with a “I <heart> Malaysia” sign (as below):

We hope to get 1000 pictures and presentthe photomontage along with the letter.

3. A Facebook page

We have set up a Facebook page at http://on.fb.me/l87wNS. We will upload your individual portraitssubmitted by you for the photomontage, if you give consent.

You see? All very simple and very positive, right?

Now besides the few minutes you would have spent reading this letter and the attachment, I ask that you join us. Remember, we are not a political organisation. We are Malaysians who still love our country and want to express that, as well as the wish to return to the country we knew as children.

You can help too!

And if you'd like to, then just do a few simple things:

1. Join our Facebook page if you are a Facebook user.

2. Send us your photo:

(posed with a self-made “I<heart> Malaysia”) to BersihSingapore@gmail.com. In the email,please indicate

a. your name (please be rest assured that we will not putyour name in the poster and the letter), and

b. Subject Header: I <heart> Malaysia photo

c. your consent for us to post your photo in the Facebookpage (this is optional).

If you like, there are a few 'I <heart> Malaysia' images you can use - they're available on our Facebook page in the albums, or if you like I can send you one. Go have a look at how a few people have already used them.

3. Finally, tell your Malaysian friends - just forward this email to them, or better still, tell them personally. And follow up.

We don't have much time!

We would like 1000 Malaysians here to express their love for the ideals and principles upon which their country was founded. Please act now!

I apologise if you have already received an invite from me or have already done the above. Thanks for spreading the word.

If you have any query, please contact me directly or us at BersihSingapore@gmail.com.

Thank you,

John
