KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 (IPS) - A government proposal to set up a media council
to 'regulate' news reporting has alarmed journalists who see it as an
attempt to add yet another layer of control over their profession.
Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar who made the announcement early November said
that the government intends to establish a national media policy and a
regulatory body for the media called the National Media Council.
