It is an established BN policy to fly by MAS. That is what it should be as we should support our national airline. Is MAS reciprocating the favour by giving special terms to the Govt?
They do! They are over-charging the Govt!
Look the table of quotes for a trip to Taiwan by the Selangor State Trade Delegation.

There are 4 proposals, 2 flying by MAS and 2 flying by Eva. The charges include accommodation, food, transfer and other fees. However, the difference in the figures can be taken as the extra charge between MAS and EVA.
MAS Twin sharing
A. Economy Class: RM 10,812 (RM 5,524 higher than EVA's)
B. Business Class: RM 12,757 (RM 4,969 higher than EVA's)
EVA Twin sharing with stopover in Brunei
C. Economy Class: RM 5,288
D. Business Class: RM 7,788
In these tough times, the State Govt should adopt option C. Despite that, they are choosing options A or B to help MAS. However, they are fair. They let the private sector choose whichever airline they like. It will be interesting to know whether BN would force the private sector to fly MAS in a similar situation.
But it seems that MAS is taking advantage of the special preference of the Govt instead of being a team player and co-operating by offering reasonable rates. Effectively, this is a transfer of public money to the private sector. However, this is only a small part of the picture. Imagine what is happening at Federal level where the Ministers and all the civil servants can bring their families for official trips. The leakage is horrendous!
The Govt should review this policy of special preference to MAS unless they can offer competitive market prices.
