PAS: Nik Aziz calls for EGM to oust Hadi Awang

    Nik Aziz insists on EGM
    UPDATED

KOTA BARU, Oct 24 – PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat is firm about the party having an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) which insiders see as a way of deposing president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang for leaders warmer towards a full-fledged opposition pact.

Abdul Hadi and his conservative allies triumphed in the last party polls over the so-called “Erdogan” faction, which is more partial to Pakatan Rakyat.

Nik Aziz’s call for an EGM is seen as a last ditch all-out attempt to bring PAS closer to the pact rather than a more detached relationship with its allies PKR and DAP. TheMalaysiaInsider....

Re: PAS: Nik Aziz calls for EGM -Crafts an ultimatum

If Nik Aziz is brave enough to try and chop the President of PAS, when will Anwar pick up the courage to chop his recalcitrants who are much smaller fries?

Nik Aziz crafts an ultimatum for PAS

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 — Even in a season where reform has become the most hackneyed word in the politician’s lexicon, Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat’s gambit in calling for an extraordinary general meeting for PAS has perhaps gone the furthest in defining the Malaysian political spectrum.

By proposing an EGM the PAS spiritual leader is effectively calling for fresh polls to weed out “problematic leaders”, his euphemism for the conservative spine of the party whom he feels are not totally committed to the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition.

Ultimately, he is pushing for PAS to be clear once-and-for-all about its agenda and where it stands. TheMalaysiaInsider....

Nik Aziz supporters start moving for EGM
    By Adib Zalkapli

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 — Supporters of Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat are moving to ensure that a special muktamar be convened to oust “problematic” leaders hampering closer ties with allies in the Pakatan Rakyat.

In Selangor at least one division will hold a full divisional meeting to pass a resolution to support party’s spiritual leader’s call.

Central committee members aligned to the Kelantan mentri besar too are expected to back the proposal.
Under the PAS constitution, a special muktamar can only be convened by the president or with the request of one-third of the central committee members. The party’s 176 divisions too can make similar requests and a special muktamar has to be convened if it is supported by at least one-third of the divisions. TheMalaysiaInsider....

Re: PAS: Nik Aziz - I’m not perturbed

A Statesman, truly a rare gem in Malaysian politics.

I’m not perturbed, says Nik Aziz

(The Star) - AS spiritual advisor Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat says he is not too concerned by the possibility of a split in the party following his call for a special muktamar to weed out “troublemakers”.

The Kelantan Mentri Besar said his greatest concern was to resolve once and for all the thorny issue of unity government proposed by Umno which had caused uncertainty among the members and the failure of party president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang to effectively discharge his duties.

He said other parties, including Umno and MCA, have held their respective EGMs, albeit for different reasons, thus there was no reason for PAS to be fearful of a split should the special muktamar be held.

Nik Aziz had on Friday called for the special muktamar to determine the fate of several leaders, including its deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa, secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali and Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Hassan Ali whom he alleged were pro-Umno.

“Even if it causes a split, so be it. I am at peace now as I have done what I feel is my responsibility as a leader. Malaysiatoday....

Nik Aziz coup sends chills through Umno

Written by Ali Cordoba Monday, 26 October 2009 19:17 Last Updated on Monday, 26 October 2009 19:41

Wfol.tv - Riau, Indonesia (26th Oct. 2009): Prime Minister Najib Razak is right: The Party Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) is divided on cooperation with the United Malays National Organization (Umno). And that is nothing new. What is new is that the anti-Umno component of the PAS is taking brave steps that is giving the chill to the Umno.

Najib said there are quarters that give more importance to politics than the interest of the ummah, which indicates the difficulty that the Umno is actually having in bringing the PAS to join it in a coalition in the Barisan National (BN).

Nik Aziz, the PAS spiritual leader launched a daunting challenge to the pro-Umno leaders - who includes the President and the Vice-President of the PAS - to hold a party's Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) in order to decide the future of the party. The EGM would also have decided on the role played by Party President Ustad Hadi Awang and Vice-President Nasaruddin Mat Esa in dividing the party over the cooperation with the Umno.

While the party was taken by surprise by Nik Aziz's move who made his wish known through his blog, the fact remains that the PAS cannot continue being misled over which group it will be loyal to. Will it be the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) or will it be the BN? WIth Nik Aziz's call for the EGM, it was clear that news was out about the party leadership still courting the Umno for a possible jump to the BN.

Now thrown in the open, the PAS leadership has to prove it is not working in the shadows with the BN component party the Umno against the Pakatan Rakyat partners with which it is in a coalition that forms the opposition in Malaysia.

The party leadership was in panic mode with Nik Aziz's proposal while the Umno insisted that it was Anwar Ibrahim that was behind the latest 'scheming' by Nik Aziz to remove Hadi Awang and Nasaruddin from the party leadership. The fact is if the PAS follows the democratic process, it is probable that the two leaders of the party may be ousted if an EGM is ordered.

This panics the Umno and the pro-Umno leaders within the PAS indeed. The possibility of being turned down as leaders only months after winning the vote in the PAS Muktamar would be devastating for Hadi Awang and his group. wfol.tv

Re: PAS: Nik Aziz calls for EGM - Chop Hassan Ali

If there's going to be a compromise tonight among the PAS leaders, it would be good if they chop Hassan Ali's head for a start. Drop him from the Selangor State Exco and sack him as PAS Commissioner for Selangor.

Then it should be Anwar's turn to go head-hunting. We need to see a head from Kedah and another from Port Klang.

Re: PAS: Nik Aziz calls for EGM - No EGM but PAS to act on Selangor

For the time being, Tok Guru Nik Aziz has agreed to return his sword to his sheath. Next time round, it will be Nasharudin's head and maybe even Hadi Awang's. TGNA is giving recognition to the fact that power comes from the people.

No EGM but PAS to act on Selangor

    By Adib Zalkapli

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 - PAS central committee members last night unanimously decided not to call for a special muktamar as demanded by the spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

Party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang however said the disciplinary committee has been told to investigate various allegations directed at Selangor PAS. This appears to be a sign that the Islamist party is moving towards taking disciplinary action against the state PAS chief Datuk Hasan Ali. TheMalaysiaInsider....

    Show-cause letter against Hasan Ali

(The Star) - Selangor PAS Commissioner Datuk Dr Hasan Ali is facing the possibility of being relieved of his position or even being sacked from the party if its disciplinary committee find him guilty of acting against the party’s interest.

PAS disciplinary committee chairman Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said a show-cause letter had been issued to Dr Hasan and several other party leaders.

Among the possible actions that could be taken against Dr Hasan are having his membership frozen or being sacked from the party, Tuan Ibrahim told online news portal mStar yesterday.

He said the party’s disciplinary committee had sent the letters to Dr Hasan and few other PAS state leaders last week. However, he declined to name the other leaders. Malaysiatoday....
