It has been barely nine months since the last general elections, but the DAP is now readying itself for possible fresh elections with the likely ascension of Datuk Seri Najib Razak as the Prime Minister in March next year.

Its central executive committee has formed a standing National Election Preparation Committee headed by vice chairman Tan Kok Wai to plan and prepare for future elections.

Apart from activating election machinery in the traditional areas of DAP, the party will focus on building capacity in Northern Sarawak,” he said in a statement today, in view of upcoming state elections in what is widely accepted as a key battleground in the tussle between Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat.

This comes on the back of plans by Pas, its partner in PR, to ready itself for snap elections as well. These plans were mooted at the party's retreat in Langkawi a fortnight ago.

With PKR to hold its national congress next weekend, a similar statement will be expected from them as the senior partner in the tripartite opposition front.

Tan, the Cheras MP, said that for now, registering new voters nationwide will be one of the major tasks the committee has set out to achieve, with the participation of all state and parliamentary committees.

Also in the committee are national organising secretary Teresa Kok, national publicity secretary Tony Pua, political education director Loke Siew Fook and his assistant Jeff Ooi with Bukit Bendera MP Liew Chin Tong serving as secretary to the committee.
