This post is about where to get the best siew yoke (BBQ pork with crackling)and char siew (caramelized BBQ pork) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia- places that we must go to whenever we go back.

The good char siew back in KL are really something else compared to the stuffwe usually see in London. For starters, good restaurants will actually use good quality cuts and certainpeople will prefer some to be leaner or fatter; we prefer "boon feisau" or "half fat half lean" meat, which is almost 50% fat andis amazingly tender and flavorful. Also, there is usually a sticky caramelizedsweet glaze over the meat which goes great with rice.

Otherwise known as Robert Siew Yoke.

Most famous place for siew yoke in Klang Valley. Meats cooked with charcoal.
They only start serving at 12:30pm sharp but people arrive at 12 to"chup" (reserve) table.

Melt-in-your-mouth fats, crispy skin that lasts for hours(proven when my uncle takes
away several packets for the whole family to enjoy and it's still crispy, evenafter
refrigerating and reheating in the microwave.) while meat itself is wellseasoned.
Remember to ask for more fatty bits!

Used to be at Tengkat Tong Shin but moved to Jalan Alor.Char siew still very good, tasty
nicely charred caramelised surface but soft tender meat. Taste of the meat isevident all
the way through not just on surface. Remember to ask for more fats!

Charcoal BBQ pit

PigPig had quick chat with a man who was grilling the meatwho said the branch in
Glenmarie is operated by his son-in-law. We tried the one at Glenmarie a fewyears
ago and it just tasted different. The KL brach is still my favourite place forchar siew.

Another great well-known place for char siew. But still prefer the sweeter andcrusty version of Meng Kee's.

Reunion @ Bangsar Village II
We actually came here for the fried Hokkien noodles (which will be in another post).
Ordered their BBQ meats and found they were actually really good. Firstly, both
BBQ meats were fatty =) The char siew was really tender with a sweet andcharred
outer layer (but lack the sticky crust like Meng Kee's). The siew yoke had nicethin
crispy skin!
