PAS and PKR file last-minute election petitions

Two Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidates yesterday filed last-minute election petitions seeking to declare the 13th general election results for the Pasir Gudang and Tebrau parliamentary seats as null and void.

Dr Ahmad Faidhi Saidi and Choong Shiau Yoon filed their petitions at about 9.30am at the High Court in Johor Baru.

Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates Normala Abdul Samad and Khoo Soo Seang won the Pasir Gudang and Tebrau seats respectively.

In IPOH, PKR’s K Vasantha Kumar, 40, filed a petition against the Tapah parliamentary seat result at the High Court.

M Saravanan of BN won the seat defeating Vasantha Kumar, Shaharuzzaman Bistamam (Berjasa) and independent Ridzuan Bani by a majority of 7,927 votes.

Earlier, Misbahul Munir Masduki, Mohd Akmal Kamarudin and Jamil Dzulkarnain from PAS filed their petitions for the Rungkup, Selama and Manong state seats in the same court.

Perak PAS commissioner Abu Bakar Hussain said that brought the total petitions by the party to six, including for Manjoi, Lubok Merbau and Pasir Panjang, which were filed on Tuesday.

The three PAS candidates were defeated by BN’s Shahrul Zaman Yahya, Mohamad Daud Mohd Yusoff and Mohamad Kamil Shafie respectively.
