#RakyatkanPolitik (ENG)

Want to change Malaysia by GE 14?

Let’s start by redefining politics.

It is time for the rakyat to take charge, and stop leaving the collective fate of our nation to a small group of other people intent on going the wrong way.

It is time that leaders listen to the rakyat, not the other way around.

It is time to change the system, so that it is not a precious few, but you, I and every one of us make the decisions and determine our future.

Redefining Politics

#RakyatkanPolitik is about redefining the way politics are run in Malaysia.

When normal, everyday citizens of integrity elect to stay out of the political process, then politics becomes overrun by those who are willing to put their own interests above the interests of the rakyat.

We have let this happen for too long, and it’s time to reverse the process.

Fresh blood

The way things stand, politicians and political parties play a big role in determining Malaysia’s directions. One day, we hope to have the ability to change this completely. In the meantime, we will do all we can to at least change those politicians and political parties.

It is always the members of an organisation that ultimately decide its direction and its fate. If an organisation consists of immoral people, it will move in an immoral direction. If an organisation consists of moral people, it will move in a moral direction.

#RakyatkanPolitik believes that pumping enough new blood into any organisation will open the doors to comprehensive reform and revitalisation. We believe in the aggregate goodness and wisdom of the rakyat, and thus believe that the more that participate, the closer we get to a cleaner brand of politics.

This infusion of fresh blood can wash out the poisons of entrenched political culture, outdated modes of thinking, and petty politics.

Principles, Democracy, Transparency

#RakyatkanPolitik is built on three foundations.

The first is integrity and principles. Above all, what we work towards is a new political culture that refuses to compromise on ethical principles. Without always putting personal and institutional integrity at the very centre of our efforts, we will never make meaningful change.

The second is a commitment to genuine democracy. We believe that it the voice of the larger majority should consistently be the defining factor in a movement, not the whims and fancies of any individual or small group.

The third is transparency. Those who have nothing to hide should always conduct as much of their affairs in the open as possible. Nowhere is this more true than in the realm of public affairs.

Mass participation

In practical terms, the first goal of #RakyatkanPolitik is to encourage as many citizens to participate in politics directly, in as many ways as possible.

Membership in political parties is one such key area. While there has been a big stigma associated with becoming members in political parties, we believe that this stigma is due to the dirty reputation concerning political culture. The very idea of #RakyatkanPolitik however is to change that political culture completely – to collectively overwhelm the old with the new.

We believe this principle applies to all political parties, and encourage as many people as possible to carry out this mission in the party of their choice.

First stage

A subset of us have chosen to concentrate on Parti Keadilan Rakyat, for a few reasons.

Firstly, this seems to be among the parties that could benefit the most from a reform of party culture, a revitalisation of leadership, as well as a rethinking of focus and direction.

Secondly, one of the most admirable features of Parti Keadilan Rakyat is the fact that unlike other parties which employ a delegate based internal electoral system, each and every Parti Keadilan Rakyat member has an equal vote in the direct party elections that determine the party leadership. Unlike all other parties as well, a new member immediately has the direct ability to influence the direction of the party at the highest levels.

Thirdly, Parti Keadilan Rakyat presently has one of the biggest roles to play in advancing much needed reform in Malaysia generally. Failure on their part will severely retard the movement for a better Malaysia.

A better Malaysia

Whichever direction you chose to move in, move. The feudal days where ‘lords’ controlled everything must be placed firmly in the past.

Our ideas are bold and ambitious, but we will not be held back by mediocrity and nay-sayers. We move forward believing in our ability to hold fast to our principles no matter the obstacles, and create the better Malaysia we all know we deserve.

  • j. seowOctober 3, 2013 at 12:47 pm The first step in winning an election is getting the votes. Well, Pakatan already has that, about 52% majority. The next step is to translate the votes into seats in Parliament. You know where the Barisan strongholds are.If the demarcations of the constituencies are not changed, then your voters will have to change where they will vote at the next election. No point winning seats with a massive majority. Donate these surplus votes to constituencies which need them so that your candidates can have a seat in Parliament..Its not too difficult to organise such an exercise I think.
