Selangor: Azmin sacked from PKNS Board. Khalid blames GM.

Khalid should come out with a brighter statement than claiming the GM sacked Azmin. The GM does not have power to sack a Board Member and he would be very stupid to do it without a black and white authorisation from the Board. Only the Board itself has the power. If the GM did it without Board Approval, he should be sacked.

KUALA SELANGOR (Jan 1: Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim will meet with the management of Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) on Monday to discuss the status of Azmin Ali as a member of PKNS Board of Directors.

He said he would discuss the matter with PKNS general-manager Othman Omar and executive secretary Norita Mohd Sidek to find a solution to the issue.

"We will not take any action or issue any statement until we meet with general manager and executive secretary," he told reporters after attending a dialogue with Felda settlers here today.

Azmin's dismissal from the corporation's board of directors had caused dissatisfaction among Selangor PKR leaders to the extent of prompting its secretary, Amirudin Shari, to demand an explanation from Abdul Khalid.

Following that, Abdul Khalid was reported to have refuted the allegation that he was involved in making the decision, saying that Azmin's dismissal was proposed by Othman.

However, the menteri besar's statement was denied by Norita. Norita, in her statement last Thursday, said that the power to appoint a member of PKNS Board of Directors was in the hand of the State Executive Council chaired by the menteri besar, and not in the hand of the general manager, as stated in Clause 4 (1) of PKNS Enactment.

She said Azmin's dismissal was also endorsed by the council in December.

Anwar is stuck and he knows it.

Khalid leaves decision to remove him as MB to party, supporters

    LATEST UPDATE: JANUARY 18, 2014 05:08 PM

Khalid speaking at a dialogue with settlers in Kuala Selangor today. – The Malaysian Insider pic by Najjua Zulkefli, January 18, 2014.Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said today that he will leave the decision to remove him as Selangor Menteri Besar to the people and party members.

The idea was recently proposed by PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali and his supporters.

Khalid said the issue between him and Azmin was a political matter and declined to elaborate further.

"It's a political issue. Let the people and the party members decide on it," he told reporters after attending a dialogue with the people in Kuala Selangor.

The Malaysian Insider reported that Khalid had nearly lost his job three nights ago, but PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim rejected the proposal from Azmin and his supporters.

Azmin was believed to be angry over his removal from the board of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).

The proposal, it was reported, was hotly debated at the central leadership council meeting Wednesday night.

Khalid admitted today that he had not been aware of the proposal to sack him in the council meeting.

Commenting on the conflicting statements between PKNS and himself, Khalid said the state government has decided to call PKNS general manager Datuk Othman Omar and secretary Norita Mohd Sidek this Monday for a discussion.

Anwar, in a press conference earlier this week, rejected the proposal of the state government to sack Azmin from the PKNS board as he is supposed to serve until 2015.

Khalid had explained that neither he nor the state exco had made any decision to remove Azmin from PKNS.

"It was decided by the general manager of PKNS," the MB had said on Wednesday.

Azmin, who is also Gombak MP, has refused to comment on the ongoing tussle.

Meanwhile, Khalid also rejected the National Fatwa Council's recommendation that the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) did not have to return the bibles it seized from the premises of the Bible Society of Malaysia on January 2.

"The state has decided that only the Home Ministry is allowed to give any advice or suggestion on the issue," Khalid said.

More than 300 bibles translated to Bahasa Malaysia and Iban were seized by Jais in the raid, because it contained the word Allah.

The Sultan of Selangor had previously issued a decree probhibiting non-Muslims from using the word.

The Council chairman for the Islamic affairs committee Tan Sri Abdul Shukor Husin stressed that Jais did not have to return the Bibles to BSM.

Anwar joined a host of opposition politicians and NGOs in criticising the raid and the PKR de facto leader urged the religious body to return the bibles to BSM.

On the issue of the Giatmara centre, the MB said he was standing firm with the decision to give the facility in Selayang a year to improve its facilities and operations.

The Selangor government had served an ultimatum to the Selayang Baru Giatmara management, asking them to improve the facilities and operations.

The Gombak Land and District office had reportedly written to the manager of the Selayang Giatmara Centre on December 2, 2013, stating that the Selangor Executive Council wanted the land back by December 10 and that it would not compensate Giatmara.

The centre had allegedly not obtained the approval of the state government to occupy the land in the last 20 years.

However, the state government has been asked to reconsider its decision to close the centre as it served youths seeking vocational training. – January 18, 2014.

PKR nixes Azmin camp’s proposal to sack Khalid as Selangor MB

    BY THE MALAYSIAN INSIDER
    January 17, 2014

Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim nearly lost his job two nights ago as Selangor menteri besar over the state's failure to reappoint PKR deputy president Azmin Ali to the PKNS board. – The Malaysian Insider pic, January 17, 2014.Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim nearly lost his job two nights ago but PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim rejected the proposal from party deputy president Azmin Ali and his supporters angry over the latter's removal from the board of state developer PKNS.

The Malaysian Insider understands the proposal was hotly debated at the central leadership council meeting on Wednesday night.

Khalid is not a member of the party's decision-making council chaired by Anwar.

"I didn't attend the meeting last night because of other matters but I was told of the matter," Selangor executive councillor Elizabeth Wong told The Malaysian Insider.

Another central leadership council member confirmed that Azmin proposed that PKR fire Khalid as menteri besar but Anwar rejected it.

"The proposal was hotly debated during the meeting but Anwar ultimately rejected the idea of dismissing Khalid," he said.

Khalid's press secretary Arfa-eza Aziz told The Malaysian Insider that they had also heard about the proposal forwarded at the meeting.

Khalid is serving his second term as menteri besar although PKR only holds 14 state seats while its partners, DAP and PAS, hold 15 seats each in the 56-seat assembly after the 2013 general election.

But the popular Khalid holds no party posts while Azmin is Selangor PKR chief. Both are seen as Anwar's confidantes but are also political rivals in the party, which is due to hold elections soon.

Azmin has been in the headlines recently after being relieved of his position on the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) board recently.

Sources said Azmin's dissatisfaction at being removed from the PKNS board was the main reason he suggested that Khalid be sacked as the Selangor MB.

Anwar ticked off the state government yesterday for removing Azmin from the PKNS board, saying the party deputy president was meant to serve there until 2015.

However, Khalid has clarified that neither he nor the state executive council had ever decided to remove Azmin.

"The decision was made by the PKNS general manager Othman Omar," Khalid said.

Anwar has disputed Khalid's statement, saying Azmin's removal was invalid as only Khalid and the state exco had the authority to remove PKNS board members.

State officials said Othman had sent a letter to Azmin on January 8 informing the latter of his removal from the PKNS board.

The letter had been sent because the exco paper which had been sent to PKNS did not contain Azmin's name on the list of the board of directors.

The column for Azmin's name had been left blank.

The state exco had only decided to enter two names, Iskandar Samad from PAS and DAP's Datuk Teng Chan Khim.

The third name was absent from the exco paper, they said.

But based on the paper they had received, PKNS presumed that Azmin had been fired from his position.

However, Khalid's office has disputed PKNS's move and acting without referring to the chairman of the board, who is the Selangor MB.

Khalid's office said there was a strong possibility that Khalid wanted to hold discussions with his party first before making any appointments.
He has now said the matter would be discussed further without putting a deadline to decide Azmin's position in the board. – January 17, 2014.
