SHAH ALAM, February 27 – Workers who have lost their jobs due to the global economic crisis can register for jobs on the JobStreet.com website through a link which can be accessed at www.selangor.gov.my.

According to a statement released by the Menteri Besar’s Office, the website offers assistance for retrenched workers to fill up their resumes and look at available job opportunities.

The website can be accessed in English which will soon have a Malay version.

The Workers Retrenchment Action Committee which met today was also notified by the Selangor State Investment Centre (SSIC) that it has been informed five companies will be begin retrenching its workers.

Besides that, SSIC in a questionnaire handed out to all companies had also asked them to inform it on any posts available for record purposes.

The committee was also informed by WIT College, Klang, that it would allow retrenched workers to attend courses based its operational capabilities.

The college’s initiative which has resulted in 31,000 skilled labourers is aimed at helping those who have lost their jobs to continue with their lives.

Meanwhile, the Workforce Department (JTK) also announced that a placement programme for retrenched workers would be held tomorrow, at the Section 19 CIAST from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm.

The interview process which would be conducted on the same day, would involve 25 employers offering 5,000 vacant posts in various fields.

All workers who had been retrenched and were registered with Jobmalaysia had been informed via short message system (SMS).
